Level 2 Screening: Questions to Ask First

A neutral question guide for understanding who requested a Level 2 screening, which identifiers matter, and what the provider can explain without interpreting results.

The useful takeaway

Clarify the requesting organization's instructions and decision-making role before asking a provider to process fingerprints.

01

Clarify the request

Ask the requesting organization what screening it is requesting, why it is needed, and which submission route it expects. The phrase Level 2 may appear in an agency or employment process, but the organization that requested it is the best place to explain its own forms, identifiers, and next steps.

Keep the request in writing when possible, including the agency or employer contact and any ORI or reference information provided. If instructions conflict or omit a detail, pause and ask the issuing organization for clarification rather than choosing a code or form based on an online example.

02

Separate process from outcome

A Live Scan provider can discuss the mechanics of capturing and transmitting fingerprints, along with the information needed to start that process. The provider does not decide whether someone is eligible, accepted, cleared, hired, licensed, or otherwise approved; those decisions belong to the relevant authority or organization.

This distinction can reduce worry during a Sanford visit. Ask where the submission goes, how you can learn whether it was accepted for processing, and whom to contact about a result. Avoid sharing more personal information than the official process requests, especially in an informal message.

03

Prepare a short question list

Useful questions cover the requesting organization, required identifiers, acceptable identification, appointment or walk-in logistics, fees, and the expected handoff after fingerprint capture. The answers may vary by agency, so treat general provider information as a starting point rather than a universal rule.

Write the answers in your own notes and repeat back any code, form name, or submission instruction to check for accuracy. If a deadline or eligibility concern is involved, ask the requesting organization or a qualified professional responsible for that decision; a fingerprinting conversation cannot substitute for that review.

A practical starting point

Your preparation list

Keep these prompts for your own use. There is nothing to submit here.

  • Record the requesting organization's exact name, contact, purpose, and supplied ORI or reference details.
  • Mark which questions belong to the agency and which practical questions belong to the fingerprinting provider.
  • Ask where the completed submission goes and who handles result or status questions afterward.
  • Keep personal notes private and send only the information required through an official channel.
When you want clarity

Questions to ask a professional

  1. What exact screening, ORI, form, and identifiers did the requesting organization intend for my submission?
  2. What can your office confirm about capture and transmission, and what must I ask the requesting authority?
  3. If I need status or result information later, which organization should I contact and how?
